At Norte, we champion bikes and community in Northern Michigan. We do this mainly through youth programs that welcome, educate, and empower riders of all ages and abilities to be physically active and socially connected using bicycles.

POSITION SUMMARY

Norte seeks a School Coordinator to further develop and nurture a consistent relationship between Norte Youth Cycling and schools within the region. These essential partnerships help ensure our mission and impact are accessible to and empower even more children in our region.

This position requires a genuine enthusiasm for Norte’s work and a passion for happy, healthy, strong communities. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are essential.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

● Title: School Coordinator

● Identification: Class 3, Full-time, exempt

● Hours: Work will typically be carried out between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.

β—‹ Occasional evening and weekend work required.

● Compensation: $43,000 - $49,000

● Reports to: Program Director

● Supervises: Volunteers, coaches, and program support personnel

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

● Organize and deliver in-school and after-school programs and initiatives, including, but not limited to, Balance Bike Club, Adventure Bike Club, Bike to School Day, the 2nd Grade Bike Smart program, and Safe Routes to School initiatives.

● Establish consistent relationships with local schools, teachers, parents, students, and volunteers using a variety of platforms.

● Engage and inform local schools, teachers, parents, and students about the positive benefits of physical activity and social connections that are formed through Norte programs.

● Oversee the continuity and quality of programming of all school programs.

● Communicate volunteer and coach needs to the Norte Program and Outreach Manager and the Director of Programs and Education.

● Create and distribute professional communications regarding school initiatives to the community using various platforms. This will be in concert with our Communications Manager and Programs Director

● Engage with community stakeholders on projects such as the Three Mile Trail and others as they arise.

● Become a Safe Routes to School ambassador and oversee the implementation of Safe Routes to School programming.

● Support other Norte community initiatives and events as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

● Ability to engage, empower, and educate children of all ages and abilities.

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

● Strong project management skills and attention to detail.

● Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

● Bachelor's degree in education, leadership, communications, or related fields.

● 5+ years in direct program/curriculum creation and implementation.

● 2+ years of supervisory experience.

COMPENSATION & STRUCTURE

● Medical insurance for the Norte employee is provided at 100% - additional family members can be added, but are paid for 100% by the employee. This benefit begins on the first of the month following 30 days of employment.

● Paid Time Off - accrued at a rate of .0385 per hour worked (for years 1 - 3).

● Personal Health Time - 40 hours per year.

● Norte contributes 3% to employee 401K accounts - this benefit begins after 90 days.

● Flexible work schedule.

● 10 paid holidays per year - at times this may increase depending on the calendar.

● Hours: M-F during the day, plus availability to work on weeknights and weekends when necessary.

A TYPICAL DAY AT NORTE

On a typical day, the School Coordinator will work closely with Norte program staff to prepare for and deliver in-school and after-school programs. In-person work is expected the majority of the time. Some remote work is possible after a pre-approved schedule has been established. In addition, the position will include a wide variety of events and community initiatives at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center, regional trailheads, local schools, with community partners, and at Norte-sponsored outreach events.
